I took a short hiatus from this blog earlier this month. As I mentioned in a previous entry, that was because my classes were starting up again, and I needed some time to transition back into that schedule. Unfortunately, I also ended up taking a hiatus from writing in general. I made almost no progress on the sequel to Songstruck which I really do need to get working on. If I estimate a total word count on the lower end of things, I’m halfway done with the first draft. If I assume that the word count will be about the same as Songstruck, then I’m maybe one-third of the way done. Which…is good, but not quite where I want to be, especially since I already know that I’ll be trashing the first 20 pages or so.
But that’s not something to worry about right now. I’m resisting the urge to edit as I write this time. All it usually does is drive me crazy and slow down my progress.
Also, this week one of my short stories, “Surviving Faerie–A Word of Warning” is free on Quarterreads.com. You can read it at no cost until Monday here. I would encourage everyone to sign up for an account there. Remember, as the name of the site suggests, it only costs you $0.25 to purchase access to a short story, and once you buy it, you can read the story whenever you want. You can also leave tips between $0.25 and $1.00 for authors if you enjoy their stories! Overall, it’s a great deal for both writers and readers.
